Pope Benedict XVI ends retirement, says he’s returning to the Vatican

VATICAN CITY—Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI shocked the world on Sunday evening, announcing that he was ending his retirement to come back to Vatican City for another Papacy. 

The 95-year-old retired Pontiff dropped the news in a surprise tweet from his official account. Citing “unfinished business,” the Pope declared he was returning to Vatican City for his second Papacy in the tweet, which included two pictures of his first Papal season. 

Benedict XVI’s agent has yet to release any further details, but in the hours after the tweet gave an official statement confirming the transition.
