VATICAN CITY—Pope Francis was reportedly pleased to once again be the only European monarch of any interest or importance.
The British Monarch Queen Elizabeth II passed away Thursday, ending the longest and most interesting reign of any living monarch besides the Pope. With her departure, Francis, the king of the independent nation Vatican City, is now indisputably the most important monarch around.
The royal family of Saudi Arabia contested Pope Francis’ claims of being the only important monarch around, but Francis reportedly told them “only Medieval monarchies with cool thrones and stuff count.”
