Pope Francis restores TLM as only Latin Rite; rad-trads switch to Novus Ordo

BREAKING–In a shocking about-face to his papacy, Pope Franics has decreed the Traditional Latin Mass as the only acceptable form of worship in the Latin Rite.

The surprise motu proprio came after extensive meetings with SSPX and other Traditionalists organizations over dissatisfaction with Traditiones Custodes. The Traditionalists representatives, however, say it’s “too little too late.”

“This papacy has some nerve waltzing in here and making massive concessions like that,” SSPX Superior General, Fr. Davide Pagliarani, told The Daily Inquisition. “The Pope can’t just all-out change the liturgy with a stroke of the pen. I, for one, will continue to celebrate the Novus Ordo as has been our Church’s tradition for almost 70 years.”

Though aimed at restoring unity to the Church, the new motu proprio, Vetus Via, has sparked widespread protest among the faithful.

“This is just another example of this Pope’s complete disregard for the tradition of our holy Church,” complained Susan Montgomery, head of the Parish Council at St. John Henry Newman Church. “The Novus Ordo is the liturgy of the Saints–Saints like John Paul II, Theresa of Calcutta, and Carlo Acutis. You can’t just throw it out like nothing.”

The move also drew condemnation from traditionally-minded bishops and clergy.

“At every celebration of the Novus Ordo, the entire heavenly host of angels is present,” Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas wrote on Twitter. “Who does this Pope think he is to destroy the Mass of the Angels–the Mass where generations of faithful Catholics have received baptism, Eucharist, marriage, and funeral rites?”

At press time, the Society of St. Pius V (SSPV) switched to Protestantism when it heard the news.
